Jamie Zhu, Victorian School Sports Awards Winner - Badminton!

Congratulations to Jamie Zhu who has been honoured with an 'Individual Sporting Blue Award' at the Victorian School Sports Awards in recognition of his outstanding achievements in Badminton.

Jamie was recently presented with his award at the MCG by dual Olympian and national Taekwondo champion Stacey Hymer.

Representatives from School Sport Victoria and Badminton Australia provided an extensive summary of Jamie's recent triumphs, as well as his involvement in various state and national teams, whilst his award was being presented today. They commented, "Jamie is an exceptional and very experienced competitor with a bright future ahead of him in badminton. He is Victoria’s top-ranked Under 15 badminton player and also the youngest member of Badminton Australia’s National Junior Squad, known as the Australian Falcons. Jamie currently holds state titles for boys’ singles, boys’ doubles and mixed doubles, alongside a national title in mixed doubles. He is a Glen Waverley Secondary College Sport Captain and a key member of the GWSC badminton teams that won the ‘Victorian All Schools’ Championship for the first time in 2024 and also the ‘School Sport Victoria’ Intermediate Boys State Championship, which was the third successive state title for Jamie and his team mates in this prestigious badminton competition. With his consistent performances and mental strength at such a young age, Jamie’s future success on both the national and international stage will be very exciting to follow. A leader both on and off the court, Jamie is indeed an inspirational young athlete”.

Jamie will definitely leave a lasting legacy at our College for the next generation of badminton players to both admire and aspire to emulate.... Congratulations again Jamie on your outstanding sporting achievements, our College community is so proud of you and wish you all the best for future success both on and off the badminton court!
