GWSC is keen to build respectful relationships within our school community and promote gender equality. This is part of an initiative supported by the state government, enabling schools to implement a whole school approach to respectful relationships. Family violence has a devastating impact on communities and affects people from all walks of life. The Royal Commission into family violence recommended Respectful Relationships be introduced to all schools to change attitudes and prevent the prevalence of family violence in future generations.
Respectful relationships promotes equality and helps boys, as well as girls learn how to build healthy relationships. To promote gender equality and respectful relationships among staff, students and families it requires a whole-school approach. Staff and students have been surveyed - the data and results will inform key strategies to ensure that we create a safe, equitable and respectful school environment. This will be a major focus for the college learning community.
