Our GWSC 'World's Greatest Shave' Fundraising Team are proud to announce that we have raised $28,219 in donations to support The Leukaemia Foundation! Thank-you to all of the amazing members of our #GWSCommunity who supported this special fundraising event that was broadcast on Channel 7 ‘Sunrise’!
Kudos to the 48 GWSC students and 4 teachers who were brave to shave, or lopped their locks, in support of others impacted by blood cancers or related disorders. We also had 6 GWSC students kindly donate their pony tails to Sustainable Salons, an organisation who create charitable wigs for people who've lost their hair due to various blood cancers and their associated medical treatments, whilst another 43 students and 1 staff member coloured their hair in an array of wondrous hues. All of the remaining hair that was cut during our 'WGS' event was then collected and also donated to Sustainable Salons to enable them to make 'Hair Booms', which can be used to soak up environmental oil spills and chemical leakages.
Don't forget that you can still see and also sponsor our GWSC students and staff, who participated in our 2026 ‘World’s Greatest Shave’, on our team fundraising page at the following link – https://worldsgreatestshave.com/fundraisers/GlenWaverleySecondaryCollegeWorldsGreatestShaveTeam2026

Massive thanks to all of the students and staff involved in this special event, who were up before the sun and in at Treseder Hall at 5:15am for the first weather cross with Sam Mac. This included members of our GWSC 'Fundraising & Community Service' Committee, 'Tech Crew', ‘Music Program’, ‘Facilities Team', 'IT/AV Support Office', 'General Office', ‘Sports Program’, ‘PE Faculty’ and 'Health Centre', who were all once again integral in assisting with the organisation, promotion, set-up, running and pack-up of our GWSC 'World's Greatest Shave' event this year. Special thanks also to the 21 teachers and 3 Glenny Alumni Program members (Amelie, Daisy and Varshaa – you are all super star stylists!) who kindly volunteered as part-time shearer's, backyard barbers, wannabe Edward Scissorhands stylists and coloured hair spray consultants throughout our special 'WGS' fundraising event. It was so amazing to see so many people, both young and older(ish), from our college community coming together to help combat blood cancer and related disorders.
It would also be absolutely brilliant if many more members of our generous #GWSCommunity could sponsor our brave shaver's and donate to their online fundraising pages, if you are able and would like to, especially those in our GWSC 'World's Greatest Shave' team who have yet to meet their fundraising targets....
Thanks in advance for your continued support and encouragement, may you all have a fantastic day!
