Glenny Gold, Silver & Bronze at State Athletics

Those with consistent bad luck often say ‘when it rains, it pours’… Our GWSC Athletics team recently put a spin on this age-old adage by running, jumping & throwing in the rain at the ‘SSV’ State Track & Field Championships with great success, resulting in a flood of medals being won by Team Glenny!

Our 24 strong squad performed exceptionally well at the ‘School Sport Victoria’ State Athletics Championships, finishing an incredible 5th overall in the ‘Team Rankings’ from a total of 248 schools who had students qualify to compete in this statewide competition. This is our best team result in over twenty years, an almighty effort from a dedicated group of young athletes and staff coaches working tirelessly on track together over the past three terms.

We had five students finish within the ‘Top 8 in the State’ for their individual athletic events, including –

Daisy Robinson – 4th placing in the U17 Girls 200m Sprint

Henry Robinson – 4th placing in the U16 Boys High Jump

Andy Xiong – 5th placing in the U14 Boys Shot Put

Bohan Hou – 5th placing in the U16 Boys 400m

Elsie Robinson – 8th placing in the U14 Girls Triple Jump

As the rain drops kept falling down over Lakeside Stadium throughout the majority of the competition, our Glenny athletes managed to keep their feet firmly on the ground without slipping up! A deluge of podium finishes resulted in a monsoon of medallions for Team Glenny, with the following athletes taking home State Medals –

U15 Girls 4 x 100m Relay Team - (Avaani Krishna, Fei Fei Du, Elsie Robinson, Pakhi Singh) – Gold Medal in the U15 Girls 4 x 100m Relay for the 3rd consecutive year!

Daisy Robinson – Gold Medal in the U17 Girls High Jump, taking home the State Title for the second year in succession.

Renon Weerasinghe – Gold Medal in the U17 Boys 200m Sprint

U16 Boys 4 x 100m Relay Team - (Sandil Chinthamani Hettige, Isaiah Khoo, Henry Robinson, Bryle Egdani) – Silver Medal in the U16 Boys 4 x 100m Relay

U17 Girls 4 x 100m Relay Team - (Charlotte Lee, Anya Nielsen, Daisy Robinson, Medha Venu) – Silver Medal in the U17 Girls 4 x 100m Relay

U15 Boys 4 x 100m Relay Team - (Sadev Kumarage, Lachlan Wong, Nevin Seneviratne, Caiden Byrne-Staunton) – Silver Medal in the U15 Boys 4 x 100m Relay

Louay Benauom – Bronze Medal in the U15 Boys 800m run

Special mentions and thanks also to our reserve relay runners, who not only assisted our relay teams to qualify for the State Athletics Championships but also supported them throughout each and every moment of their events. Kudos to Angela Chen, Mason Wong, Sakura Majoor and Bohan Hou – your continued encouragement, calming influence and fantastic cheering really helped all of our Glenny Athletes! Thank-you all for also helping to warm-up your team mates and ensure that they marshalled for their events on time. You are all an integral part of our GWSC Athletics Team!

A MASSIVE THANKS to all of our GWSC staff members and also our special Glenny Alumni coach, Mr Kai Nielsen, who assisted with our after-school Athletics Training sessions this year! It has been another very successful year in relation to students achieving personal bests, in addition to qualifying for both the region and state championships. All of our amazing athletes couldn’t have done this without the continued support and dedication of our superb staff members and alumni coaches who assist our extracurricular Sports Program year after year.

We would also like to pass on a GIANT THANK-YOU to Mr Neil Hutchins who kindly volunteered his time and expertise to help coach and mentor our GWSC ‘Track & Field’ Team during the 2025 ‘School Sport Victoria’ Waverley Division, Eastern Metropolitan Region and State Athletics Championships. Neil not only supports our team on competition days, but also coaches many of our athletes for free at the Waverley Athletics Centre. He does so as he has a long-standing connection with our College, having previously attended Syndal Technical School which was one of the schools that amalgamated to form Glen Waverley Secondary College as we know it today. Neil is an invaluable asset to our GWSC Athletics program and has helped to develop many of our students into the confident athletes they are today!

Finally, we would also like to thank Mr Shaun Crotty, Mr Kai Nielsen and Mr Mark Robinson who supervised, motivated, helped coach and cheered on our athletes and relay teams at the ‘School Sport Victoria’ State Track & Field Championships this year.

We look forward to an even bigger and better year of Athletics at GWSC in 2026, here’s hoping the amazing efforts of our 2025 State Track & Field Championships representatives, medallists and victors inspires even more students at our college to have a go at a run, jump or throw in the very near future!
