Extra, Extra….Read all about it……2022 ‘School Sport Victoria’ State Table Tennis Championships!
- GWSC Wins ‘School Sport Victoria’ Year 8 Girls STATE Table Tennis Championship!
- GWSC Wins ‘School Sport Victoria’ Intermediate Girls STATE Table Tennis Championship! No, stop rubbing your eyes, you are not seeing double…..even though many opposing players seemed to be when our Year 8 Girls and Intermediate (Years 9 & 10) Girls table tennis teams were blasting winners past them during the 2022 ‘School Sport Victoria’ STATE Table Tennis Championships, which were recently contested at MSAC Stadiums in Albert Park.
Congratulations to Amirah Hisham, Chloe Chen, Natalie Trinh, Prabhani Wijetunge, Nethuki Gunathilake and Yashvi Shah who together played some exceptionally consistent and creative table tennis during the pool games, semi-final and final of the Year 8 Girls ‘SSV’ Championship. Our Glenny girls did not drop a set all day, in either the singles or doubles, as they swept past Marist College (Bendigo), Alamanda College, Sacred Heart College (Yarrawonga), Gilson College and Balwyn High School on their way to taking out the state table tennis title in a dominant display!
Congratulations also to Carly Jiang, Seanna Herlekar, Trinethra Jayakumar and Yuhan Li who toiled away tirelessly on the tables, to grind out some hard-fought victories against quality opponents from all across Victoria, in the Intermediate Girls ‘SSV’ Championship. After narrowly losing their first game of the day against Nossal High School, our Inter girls never looked back and forged ahead to secure successive victories against Gilson College, Mary MacKillop College (Leongatha), Brentwood Secondary College and Suzanne Cory High School. With a mix of pure power, amazing angles and dogged determination, our Inter Girls secured Glenny’s second State Title in table tennis for 2022!
Special thanks to our student coaches – Ellyce Trinh, Adam Zhu, Lily Taing and Kevin Che – who expertly guided our Year 8 Girls and Intermediate Girls teams through eleven intensive training sessions alongside the bearded burbler’s, Mr Crossett and Mr Robinson. They also helped to coach, motivate and cheer on both of our teams as they progressed through the ‘SSV’ Waverley Division, Eastern Metropolitan Region and Victorian State Table Tennis Championships. It was awesome to observe this foursome working so closely with our teams, continually supporting and motivating our players during each and every training session and game, whilst they also assisted with umpiring and scoring when required.
Thank-you also to Mrs Carolyn Dickinson, Ms Kristine Stanciu and Mr Pete Smith who all assisted our two triumphant table tennis title winning teams from time to time over the last two terms, your support and encouragement were greatly appreciated.
We can’t wait for another season of table tennis to roll around next year, so our two terrific teams can both go back-to-back and back-to-back…..Might be time to invest in some prescription lenses if you think you are still seeing double…..Also don’t forget to #PongStrong!
