The Airport...

On Monday the 22nd of April, we all went to the Melbourne airport to see Ben and Dhunsya off. They will be going over to America to setup our experiment with SpaceHab and BioServ. They will also meet some of the other students involved in the STARS Program around the world.

Canberra Camp

As a component of the Supernova project, the Year 9 Supernova elective class is embarking on a tour of Canberra.

The aim of the tour is to expose the students to organizations in Australia involved in space research to enhance the work the students are doing in the classroom, designing the shuttle experiment. The aim is to also open the students' minds to the opportunities available in Australia to become involved in space technologies and research.

During the tour we will be visiting 'The Deep Space Research Center' in Tidbinbilla, the Mt Stromlo Exploratory, Questacon and a night visit to the Canberra Planetarium and Observatory to use their telescopes (weather permitting). In addition to site visits, experts from RMIT Aerospace Engineering will be conducting base camp activities designed to engage the students and develop their problem solving skills in the realm of rocketry, robotics and other space inspired operations.

The tour will run from the 18th to 22nd May, traveling to and from Canberra by coach. We will be staying at Camp Cottermouth , a camp run by the scouting organization, 26km from Canberra in a bush setting on the Murrumbidgee River. A coach and driver will be residing at the camp to transport us to the various site visits during the tour.

The outcomes of the tour will be enhanced by pre-tour activities and culminate in a post-tour report which will become an Assessment Task for the students.

Global Leap

To coincide with the Millennial Leap Day, the Supernova class participated in the Global Leap webcast.

Global Leap was an initiative to capture a snapshot of the world by harnessing the power of the Internet and video streaming.

Hosted locally by the Melbourne Zoo, the class presented on the Project so far. The Global Leap hosts will be archiving the event, and it will be available as a link from this website as soon as it is made available.
