eLearning Studio

The College's eLearning Studio is essentially a space for discussing and developing eLearning resources and strategies.

It provides a workspace for the College's Intranet Development Team
The College maintains an Intranet Development Team of two, one programmer and one manager/designer. Prior to the construction of the eLearning Studio, this team was housed in with the network support technicians.

It enables staff and students to have easy access to the Intranet Development Team
With the team now housed in the new Studio, both staff and students will be able to consult on Intranet-related matters in a comfortable and accessible planning and development space.

It provides a Professional Learning meeting space for staff who wish to develop eLearning resources and strategies
Staff are encouraged to be continually refreshing their teaching skills. Often this involves Professional Learning which is delivered to large classes of teachers. It can also, however, be delivered one-on-one or in small group settings. The eLearning Studio is ideal for these smaller group sessions.

It acts as a venue for the eLearning Coaches to meet with staff developing curriculum support materials
In addition to the Intranet Development Team, the College maintains two coaches for eLearning projects. These coaches discover and disseminate eLearning ideas, and work with teachers who either wish to benefit from these ideas, or who have ideas of their own that they wish to have support in bringing to fruition. The Studio is an appropriate and convenient place for this to take place.

It will (in time) house a range of specialist content-authoring hardware and software
Some projects will require specialist development hardware and/or software. For example, teachers developing enhanced interactive textbooks using Apple's iBook program require an iMac operating the Lion OS, and such hardware and software could be provided in the Studio, rather than as a general deployment.

It provides a physical focal point for sharing ideas and having discussions on the development of eLearning in the College
Like-minded persons interested in developing eLearning and in exploring what it has to offer can consider the Studio as a place where ideas can be exchanged and discussed. The space is envisaged as a venue for informal encounters as well as for booked learning sessions.
