2014 - Year 7 Enrolment - Important Information

Where a Year 7 enrolment application is being considered for 2014 the following information should be noted:

1.Proof of Residency – owned properties inside the neighbourhood area

Proof of residency must be determined before the enrolment process can begin. Families who own a property inside the neighbourhood area are required to present documentation that proves they are living in the property. Suitable documentation would include such items as Council rates notices or utility bills/connection notices (e.g. Gas, Electricity). This documentation must include a current drivers licence, indicating a residential address in the school neighbourhood area.

2. Families who lease properties in the school neighbourhood area

For families who are leasing a property, the property or lease documents must be under the parent's name. The minimum leasing arrangement is 12 months through a Registered Estate Agent and must be concurrent to the year of enrolment.

Families will need to provide
» a copy of the lease,
» a copy of their bond receipt,
» a copy of the latest utility (gas, electricity, etc) bills,
» a valid driver’s licence listing that address.

You will also be required to advise us as to the length of time you have been at that address.

The lease must be through a Registered Real Estate Agent. Private lease arrangements will not be accepted.

3. Where a family owns a property ourside the neighbourhood area and leases a property inside the neighbourhood area

Even though families may lease a property inside the neighbourhood area, an owned/mortgaged property outside the neighbourhood area will be considered the primary residence and enrolment will not be accepted on the evidence of the leased property.

Transition from Grade 6 to Year 7

Initially, primary schools are responsible for managing the Year 7 application process.

By the first week of term 2, primary schools will distribute to the parents of Grade 6 children information relating to secondary education and an ‘Application for Enrolment’ form. On this application form, parents are asked to list up to four secondary school preferences. If you would like your child to attend Glen Waverley Secondary College, it is important to list us as your first preference.

Please note that Year 7 placements are allocated according to guidelines issued by the North Eastern Victorian Region.

Students who meet either of the following two criteria will gain automatic entry to year 7 at the college:

Criterion 1: Students who reside permanently in the college neighbourhood area

Criterion 2: Students who are able to make what is known as a ‘sibling claim’. That is, where a brother or sister is enrolled concurrently in the College and who resides permanently with the applicant.

A small number of placements may be available for students who do not meet either of the aforementioned criteria. To be considered for any of these places further information should be provided to support the request, and should be submitted to the primary school with the application. The following criteria will be applied in such a case:

» Specific curriculum grounds

» Proximity of the family home to the college

» Compassionate grounds involving significant family or individual circumstances
