Group Wisdom: Progress

What Progress is

Progress is an online feedback system between teacher and student, which parents can also view.

It can be used by the teacher to provide feedback on tasks which are still in development by the student ("formative"), as well as finalised marks or scores on completed work ("summative").

Assessment feedback can be in a range of forms, from a scale that indicates the work was Outstanding, Excellent, Very Good, and so on, through High/Medium/Low ratings, and on to numerical scores.

Teachers can also provide textual feedback, indicating areas on the task where the student has done well, where they could have done better, and what they need to do to improve.

Students can also be given the opportunity to submit textual content, whether that be the submitted work itself, or reflection upon their feedback they've received.

Progress and formalised Reporting

The formal Reports issued by the College at the end of each Semester often make mention of referring to Progress for further details.

This approach to detailed feedback is condoned and even encouraged by the College administration. Many teachers invest a great deal of effort into the feedback on Progress, which is primarily directed at the student. Parents can also benefit from reviewing the feedback that their child has received.

Both students and parents are strongly advised to monitor Progress during the Semester, and to read it in association with the Report at the end of Semester.

Accessing Progress

Progress is part of the Group Wisdom suite of online classroom tools housed on our Intranet.

Each class that a student is enrolled in has a Group Wisdom space, and thus a Progress page.

Students can access the Group Wisdom space by following the links to the page for that class.

Progress is linked via a button on the left-hand side of the Group Wisdom space for the class.

Parents can access Progress by logging on to the Parent Intranet, and by navigating to the class page via the Subjects link.

See here for help accessing the Intranet.

Consistency across classes

Note that not all teachers use Progress to the same degree. Some teachers prefer to give only marks, placing the bulk of their textual feedback directly on the written work that students submit on paper.

Students and parents are reminded that reviewing this paper-based feedback with reference to Reports and Parent/Teacher Night interviews is a wise step to take.

Documentation of a student's learning journey is a primary requirement of teachers, and students and parents have every right to ask for access to that documentation if it is not made readily available through Progress.

Progress and Ultranet

It is anticipated that Progress will continue to operate in parallel with Ultranet for the foreseeable future.

If Ultranet proves to adequately serve the needs of the College community in terms of processes currently covered by Progress, and is seen to be an on-going concern, Ultranet will eventually supersede Progress at a date to be determined.
